Leucoderma Definition:White skin patches

Leucoderma is presence of whitish or de-pigmented patches on an otherwise normal skin. It is a cosmetic problem and, generally, does not affect any internal organic functions or metabolism.

Leucoderma Causes:

  • In most cases, it is idiopathic (specific causative factor cannot be detected).
  • Fungal or viral infection.
  • Irregular diet and deeds Allergy to specific foods or medicines.
  • Heredity, in some cases.

 Leucoderma Symptoms:

  • Whitish or de-pigmented patches scattered all over the skin.
  • The patches are associated with itching, and occasional redness.
  • The patches increase in size and in intensity (40-60% of the total body skin is de-pigmented in some cases).
  • The condition may lead to malignancy of the melanin, which is the coloring pigment of the skin.

Leucoderma Suggestions:

  • Local application of oils extracted from the seeds of Bakuchi. But it should be detoxified and purified before use.
  • Powdered purified corals (Rasamanikya) and animal horn (Mrigashrunga) in a 250-mg dosage, thrice, daily.
  • A decoction of Rubia cordifolia (Manjishtha) in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
  • Generic herbominaral preparations like Maha Tikta Ghrita, Vati and Pancha Tikta Ghrita can be taken, only after consulting an Ayurvedic physician.

Herbs Can Be Used:Virtiligo treatment

  • Local application of juice of holy basil and limejuice on the affected area.
  • A paste of basil leaves with a clove of garlic should be applied on the affected area.
  • A paste of radish seeds in vinegar should be applied on the affected area.
  • Juice of the leaves of goosefoot should be applied on the affected area.

Jaundice Treatment

Jaundice Definition:yellow jaundice

Jaundice is the disorder of the liver caused by any infection of liver cells, due to many causative factors. It is diagnosed by a yellowish staining of the eyes and skin.

Jaundice Causes:

  • Irregular diet (either intake of unhygienic and stale food or excessive intake of oily, spicy and pungent foods).
  • Spread of viral infections, which cause jaundice, through blood and use of infected blades, syringes and needles.

Jaundice Symptoms:

  • Yellowish staining of the eyes and skin.
  • Discoloration of urine from light yellow to very dark yellow to even reddish yellow.
  • In cholistatic jaundice, stools turn whitish, but urine remains unchanged.
  • Loss of appetite, associated with nausea and vomiting.
  • Pain in the abdomen due to enlargement of liver and spleen.
  • Anemia and weakness.

Do’s & Don’t :

  • Diet should include boiled rice, lentils and buttermilk, with a pinch of asafetida, rock salt and powdered cumin seeds.
  • A cold infusion of Vetiver grass, powdered ginger and sandalwood in place of plain drinking water.
  • Avoid fried, pungent, oily and spicy foods.
  • Stick to a diet that includes hot vegetable soups, juice of green grams and rice porridge, with a dash of black pepper and ginger powder.
  • Avoid unhygienic and contaminated food.

Suggestions:

  • Fresh juice of Phyllanthus niruri (Bhumi amalaki) in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily.
  • A decoction of Kalmegh (Bhunimba), leadwort and three myrobalans in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily.
  • Tablets prepared from Picrorrhiza curroa (Kutki) and gum guggul (Komiphora mukul) in a 250-mg dosage, thrice, daily.
  • Either tablet made from tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi) in a 1-gm dosage or fresh juice of tinospora in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily.

Jaundice Treatment:

  • Two-to-three nasal drops made with the juice of bitter luffa.
  • Juice of radish leaves in a 50-ml dosage, thrice, daily.
  • The paste of the bark of Berberis vultaris (jaundice berry), in a 1-gm dosage, thrice, daily.
  • Sugarcane juice mixed with limejuice, in 30-ml dosage.

Urinary Tract Infections

Definition:Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections are generally bacterial or viral infections and can affect any organ in the urinary system, right from kidneys to the bladder.

Causes:

  • Retention of urine by suppressing the urge to micturate.
  • Drinking less amount of water, which generally concentrates urine and precipitates infection?
  • Lack of proper hygiene, especially in females, which precipitates infection due to short length of urethra.
  • Presence of stone in the kidneys or bladder.

Symptoms:

  • High fever, accompanied by shivering, especially in the evenings. Burning sensation and pain while passing urine.
  • Passing of infected urine, such as turbid or blood stained, due to presence of pus cells or excess proteins.
  • Associated with moderate backache.
  • Increased frequency of micturition, with a feeling of incomplete evacuation of bladder.

Do’s & Don’t:

  • Include a lot of water and fluids in regular diet to keep the urinary system absolutely flushed out.
  • Take hot lentil soups and pulses regularly.
  • Take rice porridge with medicated pure ghee (with less salt as it causes sodium and water retention). Avoid irregular meals.

Suggestions:Vaginal irritation

  • Cold infusion of coriander seeds in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily. Infusion or decoction of the fruit of punctured vine (Gokshur) in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily, to facilitate the excretion of stagnant urine from bladder.
  • Coconut water is an excellent diuretic and should be taken every day to enhance urine production and flush out urine.
  • A decoction of Boerhaavia diffusa (Punarnava) is good diuretic and is recommended in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily.
